May 2011: Mariam Namyalo is a bright, energetic ten year old. She loves to play in the school yard with her friends and skip rope. Although Mariam is only in Primary Four, she already aspires to go to University and become a doctor! Mariam lives with her mother, two little brothers and one sister (she is the eldest) in the Kireka community, and she and Roy are best friends. Mariam's family is originally from the Tororo region of Uganda. This month Mariam was given medication for de-worming, and she was able to take part in a fun field trip to Wonder World, an amusement park. She even tried to learn how to swim in their pool (where, within 5 seconds she peed on a volunteer... but we won't go into that story!)
